We know we often need to restart our computers and mobile phones but do we ever take the time to restart and refresh ourselves? Do we know how to find our own restart button? Do we even have one? Below are some tips and tricks to pressing our personal reset in order to ensure we go forth with a renewed force and strength…

5 ways to find your reset button to launch you into a strong 2016

Take a technology break:

Constantly being ‘on’ and glued to our phones and computers can cause remarkable levels of stress and anxiety as we anticipate the next text/whatsapp/message/call/email not to mention the feelings of FOMO (Fear of Missing out) that comes with our regular(and so unnecessary) Facebook checks. Commit to one day a week of no technology – a Sunday is the perfect day to make this happen. It’s a day when you will receive less emails (so the separation anxiety should be manageable) and it is also a day when you can invest in human interaction and connection or simply shut off from the world and have a day with yourself.

You will be amazed at the effect this has on your body and mind. At the end of the day you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated not to mention less attached to (and reliant on) your device. 

Do something you’ve been meaning to do for some time now:

A reset is a new start and a new start means new beginnings. If you never venture out of your daily routine, you won’t develop…you won’t reset. Achieving a goal can build your self-confidence and open new doors you didn’t even know existed. Start with something small if you think this is a daunting task but just make sure you start!

Just sit and be:

For those not used to meditation/contemplation/day dreaming, this can be extremely uncomfortable but…if you push through you will be amazed at how just ‘being’ can bring with it a wave of relaxation, increased happiness and a total mind reset. Start with 5 mins at a time. Set your alarm and just sit. With time, 5 minutes won’t seem long enough and you’ll be setting your alarm for 20. 

Plan a break:

It doesn’t have to be expensive and it doesn’t have to be far away. Plan a weekend with your partner, your family or even better…just you. Ensure that it isn’t one filled with activity but rather a place involving nature and time to just be. Life moves so fast these days that we often don’t take time to watch it, digest it and move forward learning from what we have seen, felt and experienced. Taking some time out to process our experiences allows for us to be accountable for life and feel more in control. Don’t let ‘busy’ take away from the experience and the lessons that you need to identify and digest everyday.

Practice Gratitude:

Taking 2 minutes 4-5 times a day just to sit and think of 10-20 things you are grateful for can be unbelievably hard to schedule (and stick to) but it is so so so so very beneficial to help you reset. Not only will taking the time to do this allow for you to go into a zone of focus which is always wonderful for the mind and body but it will also ensure that you check in, become a witness to your day and most importantly, attract more of that which you identify on your gratitude list. 

Next time you restart your computer or mobile, ask when was the last time you did that for yourself? Commit to this regular practice and watch your life change.
