Why Add Binance Smart Chain (BSC) Network to MetaMask?

There are a couple of notable reasons why you might want to connect Binance Smart Chain (BSC) to MetaMask. Here are some of them:

  • Ability to explore and access dApps on the BSC
  • Access to buying, selling, swapping, receiving, and sending BEP-20 tokens.
  • Safety of your tokens

How to Binance Smart Chain (BSC) Network to MetaMask – Extension/Browser

If you are using your browser, there are two main ways to add Binance Smart Chain (BSC) network to your MetaMask wallet.

1. Using BSCscan
2. Manually through MetaMask

1. Adding Binance Smart Chain Network to MetaMask is very easy if you do it through the official BSCscan website. Once you open the website, you will need to scroll down to the bottom of the webpage. In the bottom-left corner, you will see a button next to a MetaMask icon – “Add BSC Network”. This will open a pop-up window in MetaMask, where you need to click “Confirm” and you’re done.

2. Adding Binance Smart Chain (BSC) Network through MetaMask manually is a bit longer a process. First, you need to open your MetaMask browser extension. Click on the current Mainnet in the top-middle section. By default, this should say “Ethereum Mainnet”.

This will open a drop-down menu, where you need to click on “Add Network”. Here, you need to manually enter the network name, RPC URL, Chain ID, currency symbol, and block explorer URL.

See the sections below for an in-depth guide on how to do both. We also have a section, where we help you add the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) network to MetaMask on mobile devices.

About Binance Smart Chain

Binance Smart Chain is a next-generation blockchain protocol that combines the high-throughput and low-cost features of a DeFi platform with the speed and security of Binance Chain. In other words, it’s a DeFi “killer” that could make the Binance Smart Chain the most used blockchain in the world.

It is compatible with Ethereum’s smart contracts, meaning that any Ethereum developer can build on Binance Smart Chain without learning a new programming language. This makes it easy for developers to create DeFi applications on the chain, which could lead to a wave of innovation in the space.

This is also the reason why you can add it to MetaMask.

In addition, the smart chain has built-in governance mechanisms that allow for on-chain voting on protocol upgrades. This means that the Binance community will have a say in how the platform evolves over time. An example would be the next token that will get added to Binance.

Finally, Binance Smart Chain is backed by one of the most powerful companies in the cryptocurrency space – Binance, the biggest crypto exchange on the planet. Binance is committed to building out the ecosystem around Binance Smart Chain, and they have the resources to make it happen.

About MetaMask Wallet

MetaMask is a crypto wallet that comes in the form of a browser extension (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Edge) or a mobile application (iOS and Android). It is well-known for being the best software wallet for ERC-20 tokens. In fact, the wallet only supports Ethereum-based cryptocurrencies and NFTs.

Nowadays a lot of people use MetaMask to connect to different decentralized applications (dApps). Most notably, people connect their MetaMask to PancakeSwap. There, they exchange Ethereum, for example, for another cryptocurrency that is not available in other crypto exchanges.

It also is a simple entry point to the world of DeFi. DeFi stands for decentralized finances, which is a term used to describe companies that look to provide open, permissionless, interconnected financial services. These services are usually lending and borrowing crypto, as well as other crypto-oriented banking services.

Most NFT marketplaces such as OpenSea support MetaMask. At the beginning of the crypto boom back in 2021, MetaMask got the spotlight as the most popular and easy-to-use crypto wallet to buy NFTs.
