A study by Bronnie Ware inspired a nurse to interview a number of her patients which were in palliative care units and nursing homes who are seeing their last days to share their regrets in life. 1. I never pursued my dreams and aspirations
That was the number one regret people have on their death beds – They weren’t brave enough to chase their dreams and in the end settled for what others expected of them. While you still have probably a lot of years to live, start doing something about your dreams; don’t keep putting things off until it’s too late or you will end up in the end having the same regret.
2. I worked too much and never made time for my family
Don’t get so busy trying to make a living that you actually forget to live, sometimes parents miss their children growth because they are too busy trying to make a career, I am not telling you not to try to make a career but you should always find time for your family.
3. I should have made more time for my friends
More and more people get lost in daily activities that they tend to forget about their friends, they stop staying in touch and they lose any contacts they had with their friends. It is common for anyone in a busy lifestyle to let friendships slip. But when you are faced with your approaching death, the physical details of life fall away. In the end It all comes down to love and relationships. So cherish your friends and try to stay in touch with them, because you will miss them in the end!
4. I should have said ‘I Love You’ a lot more
The Importance of love becomes bigger and bigger towards the end of people lifes. Don’t be afraid from telling someone you love them, simply because you might get rejected. Failing to express these feelings will leave an unsettled feeling buried deep down inside you.
5. I should have spoken my mind instead of holding back and resenting things
If you want to have healthy relationships, confrontation and honesty are necessary. Don’t be afraid to say what’s on your mind.
6. I should have been the bigger person and resolved my problems
Deal with your problems immediatly, because it might be too late tommorow. You can’t avoid conflicts and problems, but you can either ignore them or you can find a solution – it’s up to you.
7. I wish I had Children
Hmm I do not agree with this one so much as I know just of too many people who leave their parents. But to all those I say stay in touch with your parents as they are one of the most important people in the world and no matter what they are the reason you are alive.
8. I should have saved more money for my retirement
Don’t fail to plan your retirment or your last moments might be really miserable. Grasp the importance of having enough money for your retirement while you are young. Regretting on that later won’t help you!
9. Not Having The Courage To Live Truthfully
Seriously too many people live miserable lives just because they don’t know who they really are, so find out who you are, find out your passions, and live life as it’s meant to be lived!
10. Happiness is a Choice
Always choose to be happy. Just make the choice to be a happy person, laugh as much, shine with positivity because no one likes negative people. Life is all about being happy, that’s the ultimate purpose of life!
You see in the end we regret not the things we did, but the things we didn’t! So grab life and shine bright!
